Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire, a quiet area in The West Island of Montreal is one of those "sleepy" place. It is the West Island, to those who have never heard of it, is a vast region that runs from Lachine until the west. The West Island is frequently referred to as being the place of birth for Amanda Brugel but while that is the case, her time there was not long. Brugel was an aspiring young lady in Courtice Ontario, just outside Oshawa. She had a dream to be a dancer but an increase in her height led to her growing beyond her dance partners. In an article from The Toronto Star she admitted In heels, I'm 6 feet one inch. After I became too big for my male friends, I quit. Many former dancers turn into acting. In the instance of Brugel,, it was the result of a recommendation from her teacher in drama. The teacher recommended that she take part in an audition for the annual school production. The audition was successful and she was chosen as Anne of Green Gables. The show led her to receive the award of a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theater Program and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2000. For the past twenty years, her roles on television and the big screen have been varied. Her role as Rita from the award winning show The Handmaid's Tale was her most famous. Brugel is the only Canadian actor in Season 1 and only appeared on occasion.
