Bruckner was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for "Best female leading actress" in this part. Her birthplace and upbringing was in a household of three brothers and two sisters. Her routine was to learn Hungarian in order to improve her language proficiency. Bruckner was born in Hollywood California to a Hungarian father and a Russian mother who have since divorced. Her paternal grandfather is German. Her parents met in Hungary and moved to the U.S. in 1984 through the refugee camp located in Italy. There are two sisters and a younger brother.
